Underwater

If you ponder upon a single word, to deeply think about that word. Any word, choose. What does your mind portray? Selection of ‘underwater’ led to many paths, with many forks, before finally settling on the depiction of a space that is so calm, so serene, that the existence of that space cannot be readily identified.

When the space is violated, it is a shock, forcing us to reconsider what we are regarding. That the violation is a beautiful one, born with a chaotic beauty that cannot be controlled or guided. This captures and immerses the viewer in the space.

Underwater is an 11 minutes and 30 seconds, 19/20-track auditory journey, curated by Rage Against the Dying Light.

A Dolby Atmos immersive mix of the track was also created by Emika, which surrounds and embraces the listener, gently guiding them into the experience.

Interaction

A web experience was also created that invites the participant to engage with audio stems of Underwater to create their own journey.

By start/stopping individual stems, the participant can create new sonic experiences that are at once personal and ephemeral. This is matched by the unfolding experience as the water tank morphs before their eyes to repeated chaotic systems, while staying true to the intent of the audio.
